If your water tastes funny, and that is why you prefer bottled water, you could probably save yourself a lot of money by investing in a water filtration system instead of buying bottled water.

Odd tasting water doesn't always mean that the water is unhealthy or contaminated. Chlorination or the mineral content in the water could be the culprits of a "funny" taste, depending on the region of the state or country. Filtering water at home is cheaper and safer in the long-run than depending on bottled water.

If you're concerned about your tap water and wish to put your mind at ease before going back to drinking it instead of bottled water, contact your local water utility and request a copy of the Annual Water Quality Report. Every utility is required by law to provide this and usually includes it with a monthly bill. This report will give you information about any contaminant violations in your water system to help you figure out what type of filtration system is best for your home.
